Using the calendar (step-by-step)
Try these exercises in order on a phone or tablet. They use real screens in N78-Ops—nothing here changes your data until you tap Accept this slot or confirm a move.
What you need
• At least one client.
• For booking exercises (4–10): one Approved quote (send → customer accepts → check Approved under Job progress).
• Settings → Scheduling configured: work week, Workday starts / Workday ends, and Default job duration (see Work week & business hours).

Exercise 1 · Open the calendar and browse
Do: Dashboard → Calendar. Swipe the month grid. Tap today (white ring + cyan day badge), then tap another day.
Expect: From the dashboard alone, you are usually in browse mode—the day sheet lists jobs already on that day but does not show a Booking quote · # strip. Today on Today hub later lists jobs for the current calendar day.
Tip: Settings → Locale & formats → Calendar week starts on controls whether the grid begins Sunday or Monday.
Exercise 2 · Set your work week (if you skipped it)
Do: Settings → Scheduling → tap Mon–Fri (or your real days) → set Workday starts 9:00 AM and Workday ends 5:00 PM → set Default job duration to 2:00.
Expect: Non-work days show a red tint on the month grid. Open Calendar again—slate outline days are workdays with no job yet.
Exercise 3 · Quick Book from a client
Do: Clients → tap the calendar icon on a client row.
Expect: Schedule opens focused on that client. If they have an Approved quote, you can book; if not, add or approve a quote first (Exercise 4).
Also try: Quotes list → calendar icon on a row focuses the same quote as a normal tap, then opens scheduling when the quote is Approved.
Exercise 4 · Prepare a quote for scheduling
Do: Open a quote → set Expected job duration (for example 3:00) before you Lock → send by Email quote or Text → when the customer accepts, check Approved under Job progress.
Expect: Open calendar to schedule (or Schedule from the quote) becomes available. Duration on the day sheet will pre-fill from Expected job duration.
Exercise 5 · Book with Best fit
Do: On the Approved quote → Open calendar to schedule. Note the Booking quote · # strip. Leave Best fit selected → tap Next available slot once or twice → tap Accept this slot.
Expect: The quote gets a date, start time, and duration. The month grid shows green on that day (single-day job). Today hub shows the job under scheduled / today rows when the date matches.
If blocked: Past dates, non-work days, and CONFLICT overlaps may show a confirm dialog—read before accepting.
Exercise 6 · Override the day with Exact time
Do: Open Schedule again from the same quote (or long-press move—Exercise 8). Tap a different workday on the month grid.
Expect: The day sheet switches to Exact time with start = your Workday starts. Use −15 min / +15 min, watch the ends line, then Accept this slot.
Tip: Auto-suggestions skip days off; tapping a blocked day still lets you book in Exact time if you are working that day.
Exercise 7 · Read slot badges (OPEN / TIGHT / CONFLICT)
Do: Book a second Approved quote on the same day close to the first job. Watch the badge above Accept this slot.
Expect:
• OPEN — fits inside work hours, trip, and buffer rules.
• TIGHT — squeezed against another job or event; you can still save.
• CONFLICT — overlap; confirm only if you mean to double-book.
Badges are labels only—you always confirm with Accept this slot.
Exercise 8 · Move a job (long-press)
Do: On Schedule, long-press the job row on the day sheet → follow the banner → pick Next available slot or tap another workday → Accept this slot.
Expect: Date/time updates in N78-Ops. Device-calendar copies (if any) are not auto-updated—edit or delete in your calendar app if needed.
Try: Remove from schedule on the move strip—quote returns to Approved without a calendar date; Expected job duration stays on the quote.
Exercise 9 · Mark a day off
Do: On Schedule, tap Mark days off → select a future vacation day → return to the grid.
Expect: That day shows a purple tint. Best fit / Next available slot skips it; tap the day anyway to book in Exact time if you are working.
Also: Settings → Scheduling → Days off / blocked dates for the same list.
Exercise 10 · Filter the grid (Show only jobs from this app)
Do: On Schedule, toggle Show only jobs from this app (see ? beside it). Turn your device calendar permission on if prompted.
Expect: With filter on, personal events may hide on the grid (jobs only). With filter off, orange = personal busy only; amber = job + personal on the same day. Device busy time can still affect Best fit when read permission is on.
Exercise 11 · Repeat a weekly visit
Do: Start booking an Approved quote → tap Repeat → choose Weekly (or Every 2 weeks) → Accept this slot.
Expect: Pattern shows on the booking screen before save. See Repeating jobs on the calendar for monthly and Advanced RRULE options.
Exercise 12 · See scheduling on Today
Do: Dashboard → Today. Find an Approved quote with no date—note Schedule the client's job. After Exercise 5, find the same quote under today's or scheduled rows.
Expect: Today mirrors pipeline status; calendar date drives “jobs this calendar day.”
Exercise 13 · Optional device calendar handoff
Do: Settings → Scheduling → turn Add schedules to device calendar on → book a new slot → if asked, tap Add to calendar? and save in your system calendar app.
Expect: N78-Ops saves in the app first. Nothing is written to the phone calendar silently. If permission is denied, in-app scheduling still works.
Default: handoff is off; open Google Calendar (or your app) yourself if you want a matching reminder.
Color cheat sheet (month grid)
Green — approved job that day · Violet — multi-day job · Cyan — lead site visit · Amber — job + personal · Orange — personal busy only · Full legend: Schedule calendar colors.
Stuck?
• Quote won’t book → confirm Approved, not Draft or Locked only.
• No open slots → widen work hours, shorten duration, or pick Exact time on another day.
• Already scheduled → long-press to move; you cannot book twice on the same quote without moving first.
